FORMATION OF THE WHITEFIELD LIONS CLUB

A new Lions Club was organized Sunday afternoon (March 31, 1953) at the North Whitefield Fire Station by Larry Barnes, International Representative of Lions International. Preliminary work had been done by Lion Barnes previously and at the Sunday meeting a local group of citizens joined under the banner Lionism to join together as a service club, whose objectives would be to help uplift their community and to make it a better place for mankind.
At the organizational meeting, the group present elected as the first president, Harry L. Chase of Whitefield; as vice presidents, Lyndon B. Hardwick of Whitefield and Walter Yorks of Coopers Mills; as secretary, William L. Bennett of Coopers Mills; and for treasurer, John McCormack of North Whitefield.
For their Lion Tamer they elected William Eastman of Whitefield and for tail twister, Verdon R. Chase of Whitefield. They appointed Lyndon B. Hardwick as Charter Night chairman, who was responsible for formulating the details for the night the club would receive its official charter from Lions International.
The club chose as their meeting night, the second and fourth Thursdays of each month, at 6:00 P.M. The following citizens also joined as charter members of this newly organized Lions Club: Paul A. Vigue, Dr. Leslie Gross, Chester Chase, Kenneth Barker, Norman Chase -- all of North Whitefield and Roger Chase from Whitefield.
The Whitefield Lions Club was sponsored by the Augusta Lions Club.

On Thursday, May 14, 1953, sponsored by the Augusta Lions Club, the Whitefield Lions Club held its Charter and Ladies Night at Union Hall, Whitefield, Maine with the following officers, directors and charter members.
